Sa Jana Ichnussa means "the Sardinian fairy" in Sardinian dialect... Ichnussa is the old local word for "Sardinia", Jana is the local word for "fairy" and sa is the Sardinian definite article "the". I gave this mare a Sardinian name because of her descent and my origins - my father being from Sardinia...
Around 2002, an American lady approached me by letter, asking if I could translate a series of old stud book prints, showcasing famous historic foundation Arabian stallions which had been standing at stud in Sardinia around the early 1900s... She had found those prints at a local market in the USA ! The prints were handdrawn and handcolored and the accompanying text was in Italian, which she did not understand, therefore her inquiry for a translation... As I went through all those foundation sires, I learned a lot about those Bedouin Arabians and all the details on their breeding career... it was so thrilling and captivated me so much that I asked her if I could get prints of those documents, to keep for myself... She kindly sent colored copies which I now own and treasure...
While creating a pedigree for this Araloosa mare, I thought I could make her Arabian sire trace back to one of those foundation stallions on the prints... I selected a matching one and was able to trace back to him after a long and thorough research, which truly was not easy but so challenging...
Sa Jana Ichnussa's sire Lux II ®, directly descends from Talata Escrin ® - the foundation stallion pictured on the right, who was born in Palestine in 1900, stood at stud in different breeding facilities in Sardinia from 1906 to 1928, covering 954 broodmares and producing 484 registered foals !!!
Sa Jana Ichnussa is a beautiful Araloosa mare... she has a very interesting pedigree, both for the sire and dam line... she is smaller than our other mares and is a very good, sweet and loving mother to her foals... her coat has an interesting lacy pattern, found in some snowflake or marble appaloosas and she has nice tipey features...
She is the Sheherazade resin by the late Judy Renee Pope - one of the earliest Arabian resin sculptures in the hobby... We imported her a few years ago from the USA and the finishing artist - Janne Denner, allowed us to add appaloosa markings, since she was a solid chestnut, but we wanted a colorful mare for our PBA program here at MirrorManor... she has proven to be a great acquisition and we are proud to own such an exotic beauty...
Check out her pedigree, progeny and photos below :)
