This beautiful aged stallion has a sad story to tell and is therefore particularly dear to us.
He is a pure rescue that we found on a vacation trip many years ago near Prague, in the Czech Republic. The owner told us that he had received him in a trade and had planned to resell him, since he was in such a bad shape and he did not have the money to take care of him. He had wanted to breed him to the local mares to resell the foals for a profit, but not being able to take care of all this and the horse being in such a bad condition, he just kept him half-starving in a back yard with his goats and cow.
It's a horse that had been sold left and right over two decades and also abused. Despite all this, he preserved his beautiful character of a gentle, trusting and loving animal.
We purchased him right away and imported him - despite the paperwork and customs odissey - to our place here in Switzerland.
We were able to locate papers and trace back to his "origin", which astoundingly indicates that he's a pure and gorgeous Straight Babson Arabian stallion !!
He is deep jet black - like most Babson Arabians - and has a truly impeccable and interesting pedigree. It is certain that he must have sired a lot of foals, which sadly are impossible to document or research. No doubt he makes a superb stud. We won't use him for breeding though. Just like our other retired horses, they will enjoy their retirement to the fullest, without duties nor stress of any kind.
A lot of care went into the rehab work for him; but he rewarded us and his noble self with a regained brilliant health and strength, which mirrors again in his beauty and grace, only topped by his wonderful character. He's a calm, tender and loving gentleman and we are so glad and overjoyed to have found him :)
Aurum Olibanumque is Latin for "gold and frankincense"... the pairing of a golden heart and noble beauty and the captivating and purifying essence of something considered rare, pricy and holy; just like the horse itself, considered a gift of God to humans. His name therefore means "Holy Gift(s)", since gold and incense were choosen to be given to our Lord Jesus Christ for His birth.
This beautiful sculpture is called "Kalandar Prince" and is a Traditional sized artist resin by Vicki Keeling and Kathleen Moody. We customized his mane and tail and painted him in rich oils into a luscious deep black with some signs of his age here and there on his coat. We also added some slight depigmentation on his muzzle, left cheeck and neck - another sign of age, which can occur also in Arabian horses - taken from a reference photo of a black Arabian stallion with these markings (see below photo).
